How to choose a graphics card for your PC
Choose a graphics card around your applications, games, monitor and the rest of the system. A series name or memory capacity alone may not show the full picture.
Consider your task and monitor together
List your games or work applications before consultation. Provide the exact monitor model, resolution and preferred settings. Compare tests on similar systems; results at another resolution or different graphics settings do not transfer directly to your setup.
For work software, also check the developer’s system requirements. If a specific feature or technology is required, verify it on the exact GPU model you selected.
Compare the full model and graphics memory
Find the exact GPU name and complete manufacturer model in the catalog. Cards in one series can have different memory capacities, cooler designs and physical dimensions. Use the product link or code when asking the store to confirm details.
Graphics memory capacity matters, but this number alone cannot compare GPU speed. Compare the exact models in the games and applications important to you.
Check physical compatibility before buying
| What to compare | Where to find the information |
|---|---|
| Graphics card length and thickness | The specifications of the exact manufacturer model |
| Free space in the case | The case description and your build layout |
| Power requirements and connectors | The graphics card and power supply manuals |
| Monitor connection | Both devices’ ports and the cable specifications |
Upgrades and used graphics cards
When changing only the graphics card, provide your current CPU, motherboard, power supply and case. The PSU wattage alone is not enough: its exact model and suitable connectors are needed.
For a used graphics card, request the condition of the specific item and the testing terms in advance. Confirm warranty and collection terms. A series or illustrative photo does not establish the condition of the individual item.
When requesting an offer
- Send the exact product link and your system’s component models.
- List your games, applications and monitor details.
- Ask about physical dimensions, power and connectors.
- Confirm price, availability, condition and warranty before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Does more GB always mean a faster graphics card?
No. Graphics memory capacity is only one specification. Compare the exact GPU models and relevant tests in your tasks.
Is the wattage printed on the PSU enough information?
A complete assessment also needs the exact PSU model and connectors. Compare them with the graphics card manufacturer’s requirements.
